Principal's Welcome

Welcome!

Welcome to the Free Church College web-site.  We hope you will find it useful and informative.  If you have any questions it doesn’t answer our College Secretary will be glad to help.  Her e-mail address is: amacleod@freescotcoll.ac.uk

We believe, perhaps a trifle immodestly, that our BTh degree offers those preparing for the Christian ministry a core academic programme second to none.  If you are preparing for the ministry of a denomination other than the Free Church of Scotland the College would be delighted to discuss arrangements for any additional practical requirements laid down by your church.

But the BTh programme is not only for ministers, and we would like to make a special appeal to Christian school-leavers now considering going to university.  Why not the Free Church College?  If you would like a rigorous, reverent education in Biblical Studies, Christian Theology and related disciplines, we can offer you a well-designed curriculum, excellent facilities and first-class tuition. You will be eligible for the usual funding from such bodies as the Student Award Agency for Scotland; and while the student body is relatively small in number it is very cosmopolitan in composition.  Most years, in fact, Scottish students are a minority.

After three years successful study (or four, if you prefer), you will hold a degree from the University of Glasgow, one of Britain’s oldest and most famous universities.  That is not the most important thing, of course.  Education is primarily about personal development, not about qualifications.  But there is no reason why you shouldn’t achieve both, and the BTh degree should provide a key not only to many forms of Christian service, but to other professions (such as teaching) for which a degree in the Humanities is an essential pre-requisite.

Our other degree programme is the Master of Theology.  This is a research-based postgraduate degree involving the preparation of a 40,000-word thesis.  Full-time (on-campus) the minimum duration of study is one year, but the degree can also be taken part-time (off-campus).  Part-time, the minimum period of study is two years.  At £5,563 for students from outside the European Union, we consider our MTh the best deal in town.

Full details of these and other programmes (including part-time programmes) can be found on the following pages.  If you would like to pay a personal visit to the College, phone in and make an appointment (0131 226 5286).

In the meantime, happy reading; and God bless you.
